The Texas Offenders Reentry Initiative (T.O.R.I.) is a 12-month, rehabilitative Reentry program founded by Bishop TD Jakes in 2005. This evidence based, comprehensive reentry program provides services to individuals with a criminal background in Dallas and Tarrant counties. Through the six core components of employment, education, healthcare, housing, spiritual guidance and family reunification, program participants create an individualized reentry plan that addresses the complete needs of the individual. Each participant attends rehabilitative classes designed to increase self-awareness, address the issues that led to criminal activity, and to provide tangible skills that the individual can use on his or her journey to reintegration into society as a productive and contributing citizen. T.O.R.I.’s mission is to guide and empower returning citizens to maximize their potential, increasing their opportunities for successful reintegration to become productive citizens of their communities. T.O.R.I. believes that through the strong support of peers, mentors, and staff, as well as access to partnered resources for active program participants, self-sufficiency and stability are possible. The T.O.R.I. program provides services to any individual with a criminal background over the age of 18, regardless of recency, residing in Dallas and Tarrant counties.
